The Boston Conservatory Albert Alphin Library houses a specialized collection of books, scores, journals, sound recordings and electronic databases supportive of the curricula at the Conservatory. The collection focuses on the areas of music performance, music history and literature, music education, opera, musical theater, world drama, dance history, dance notation and dance choreography. Additionally, there is a representative core collection of college level books in the liberal arts.
All Pro Arts Consortium Members visiting the Conservatory Library must check in at the Security Desk at the main entrance (8 The Fenway) with their institutional ID card in order to gain access to the Library. Anyone without proper identification will not be allowed in the Library.
Circulating Material
Materials that circulate at the Albert Alphin Library include scores and books from the music, dance, theater and liberal arts collections. Pro Arts members may use materials at the Albert Alphin Library at The Boston Conservatory at any time, provided that they are used in the library. Pro Arts members wishing to borrow circulating items from the Conservatory library should make a request through interlibrary loan.
Non-circulating Material
Non-circulating materials may be used by Pro Arts members within the Conservatory Library. These items include all sound recordings, reference books, and periodicals. Pro Arts members will need to leave their ID at the circulation desk when using sound equipment and recordings. Headphones are available at the circulation desk. Periodicals may be requested at the circulation desk. See a librarian for holdings.
Interlibrary Loan
Pro Arts members may borrow Boston Conservatory Library circulating materials via interlibrary loan by providing the following information to their home institution Library Circulation Desk: item title, author/composer, and Boston Conservatory Library call number (if known). The Boston Conservatory has a lending period of 30 days from the shipping date for interlibrary loan requests. Renewals are granted for a 26 day period, as long as the item requested is not in demand or needed for a course. The Conservatory Library does not provide photocopies.
