Student contract (FOR YOUR REFERENCE)
Congratulations on your acceptance into the Dual Enrollment program! Dual Enrollment is offered to BAA students who, along with their high school counselors and faculty, believe they are prepared for the challenge of college coursework and are considering attending one of the participating colleges in the future.
Participating students earn credits that meet the requirements for high school graduation and may potentially be transferred to higher education institutions. The tuition costs will be absorbed by the colleges, but you are responsible for the cost of additional materials and lab fees. Please read the following information carefully before signing this contract. By signing, you agree to meet these requirements for admittance into the Dual Enrollment program.
I. Your Responsibilities
- Attend class. Most colleges issue a failing grade to students who miss more than two classes. If you can not attend a class due to a scheduling conflict, discuss this with the professor before the class you intend to miss.
- Purchase the required course materials. This includes books, art supplies, and lab materials.
- Complete the coursework on time. Professors issue a syllabus (an outline of the course content and assignments) on the first day of class. It is your responsibility to fulfill the work requirements listed on the syllabus.
- Set up your college email and check it regularly. Professors often share materials and communicate with students via email. Check your college email regularly so you are prepared or class.
- Ask for help if you need it.College courses are challenging. If you’re having trouble in a class, follow the steps listed below to increase your chance of succeeding.
II. If You Need Help
- Meet with your college professor. “Office hours” are open timeframes during which you may visit a professor’s office and ask questions. If you can not attend office hours, ask the
professor to meet with you during another time.
- Meet with your BAA advisor. She/He may be able to offer guidance on being successful in a college course while also being a student at BAA.
- Meet with Ms. Wyner. If you have met with the professor and student advisor and are still having trouble, set up a meeting with Ms. Wyner.
III. If You Need to Withdraw From a Class
- Withdrawing from a course is a last resort, and must be approved by Ms. Bautista, Academic Dean. Students withdrawing from courses can jeopardize the future of the program and course offerings.
- To withdraw from a class, you must meet with your student advisor and Ms. Wyner before the withdrawal deadline. See below for deadlines.
- Complete the withdrawal paperwork. Colleges require paperwork to withdraw from a class. This paperwork usually requires the signature of the professor. It is your responsibility to make sure the paperwork is completed and submitted to Ms. Wyner before the withdrawal deadline.
